Overview
Core group modalities focus on developing foundational capacities related to emotional regulation, mentalization, and interpersonal effectiveness. These groups are commonly recommended for individuals with complex relational patterns, personality-based concerns, or difficulties sustaining stable internal states.
Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT)
Structured groups focused on mindfulness, distress tolerance, emotion regulation, and interpersonal effectiveness.
Self and Other Process Group
A relationally focused psychotherapy group designed to deepen awareness of internal experience and its impact on others. This group emphasizes mentalization, affect regulation, and the examination of relational patterns as they emerge in real time, supporting the development of a more cohesive sense of self and more stable, reflective relationships.
Mentalization-Based Process Groups
Process-oriented groups grounded in Mentalization-Based Therapy (MBT), designed to enhance reflective functioning and understanding of self and others within a live interpersonal context.
Specialty & Experiential Groups
Specialty and experiential groups offer focused, time-limited opportunities for psychological integration through non-traditional and embodied therapeutic approaches. These groups are recommended when experiential work is clinically indicated as part of a broader treatment plan.
Art Therapy Group
A 12-week experiential psychotherapy group utilizing creative processes to explore emotional experience, identity, values, and relational patterns. This group integrates principles from Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) and Mentalization-Based Therapy (MBT) and is offered by clinical recommendation following intake.
Groups Within Levels of Care
Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP)
For patients enrolled in our Intensive Outpatient Program, group therapy is a central component of treatment. Group modalities are selected based on clinical need and may include skills-based, relational, and experiential groups designed to support stabilization, relational learning, and psychological integration alongside individual psychotherapy.
Outpatient Treatment
For outpatient, groups function as adjunctive treatment, enhancing insight, emotional regulation, and interpersonal capacity in coordination with individual therapy.
Accessing Group Therapy
Participation in group therapy at The Kimberly Center occurs through a comprehensive intake evaluation or referral by a Kimberly Center clinician as part of an individualized treatment plan. Groups are not open-enrollment, ensuring clinical appropriateness, group cohesion, and a high standard of care.
Structured Support for Complex Patterns
Our groups are designed for depth and integration. The first step is a consultation to determine the right fit for your clinical needs.
