Sylvia Martinez is a New York State–licensed Creative Arts Therapist who provides individual and group psychotherapy at The Kimberly Center. She received her graduate training in Art Therapy from Drexel University and has over twenty years of clinical experience working with individuals across the lifespan, from childhood through later adulthood.
Throughout her career, Sylvia has worked in inpatient hospital settings, including Jacobi Medical Center, and has specialized in leading therapeutic groups for adults living with chronic mental illness as well as individuals navigating acute psychiatric crises and trauma. Her integrative approach draws on art therapy, creative writing, verbal psychotherapy, and relaxation-based interventions to support emotional regulation, insight, and psychological growth.
Sylvia has extensive experience working with individuals diagnosed with personality disorders, eating disorders, and self-injurious behaviors. She specializes in Mentalization-Based Therapy (MBT) and works with patients at The Kimberly Center using an MBT-informed framework to support the development of reflective functioning, emotional understanding, and more stable interpersonal relationships.
In addition to her clinical training, Sylvia has completed a two-year psycho-spiritual Holotropic Breathwork training program, which informs her sensitivity to embodied experience, symbolic expression, and depth-oriented healing processes.
