For suitable patients who are stable enough for a more experiential treatment, HB, a breathing technique that involves breathing quickly and in a pattern for minutes to hours, is an open treatment that can help patients achieve an altered state of consciousness that can help with emotional healing and personal growth. HB is said to have the potential to improve self-awareness and outlook on life.
Holotropic Breathwork (HB)

The History of HB
HB was developed in the 1970s by psychiatrists Stanislav and Christina Grof as a non-drugic way to achieve altered states of consciousness. The word “holotropic” comes from the Greek words holos (whole) and trepein (to move toward), and translates to “moving toward wholeness”.
